Auditions for our first show of next season, The Fantasticks will be held on Tuesday and Wednesday. Interested parties should please send your current headshot/resume. No calls please. Actors selected for an audition timeslot will be asked to prepare an appropriate monologue no longer than 1 minute in length and your best 16 bars of a song well-suited for the role you are interested in playing. Callbacks will be held on Saturday June 1 beginning at 10AM. This non-traditional production of the Fantasticks will have a contemporary setting, but will be heavily influenced by and the sights and sounds of the 20’s and 30’s, as its ‘troupe of travelling players’ revisit its songs and scenes within the framework of vintage carnivals and tent revivals. Incorporating retro musical sounds and instrumentation of Bands like Mumford & Sons and the Decemberists, and merging hipster design elements and the use of aerial choreography, we will work to find a new simplicity, darkness, and rootedness in the feel of the piece. Performers with unique special abilities, circus or aerial skills, or proficiency with musical instruments are of particular interest. With music by Harvey Schmidt and book and lyrics by Tom Jones, this much-loved show tells a funny and romantic tale of a boy, a girl, two fathers, and a wall. Under the sway of the puckish narrator, El Gallo, the boy and the girl fall in love, grow apart, and, in the end, find their way back to each other after realizing the truth in the words that “without a hurt, the heart is hollow.” The Fantasticks will open on September 6 and runs through September 29, 2013. Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays are 8PM shows. Sundays are 3PM matinees. Rehearsals will begin in late July. All performers in the production will receive a stipend of $300 (flat) for the run of the show. (Travel stipends available for those travelling great distances.) *At this point we are unable to work with equity performers. point we are unable to work with equity |
